An argumentation essay also relies on the persuasive principle.
An argumentation essay is really a compilation of various styles of essays. There may be some comparisons and contrasts in it, or even some definition, narrative, causes and effects, etc. Click for Free Writer's Block Help E-Zine and Free E-Book All essays rely on the persuasive principle, and an argumentation essay is no different. You are arguing a point to make it clear. Remember, however, that first person pronouns are not essential to this style of essay. You can show that you lean a certain way or believe a certain something without the use of first person pronouns. For example, you do not have to say, "I feel that school is an awful use of my time." In this instance, two first person pronouns have already been used: "I" and "my." One could change the sentence to say, "School is not the best use of students' time." In this case, the argument is not only for the person stating it, but it relates to all people who might be students. Some students may disagree with this statement, and that is where a concession falls into place within an essay. Your targeted audience for any argumentation essays that you write should understand how your main points and reasoning revolve around your main idea, or thesis statement. All your points, minus the concessions you might make, will strengthen you resolve to argue your point and make it blatantly clear how you feel, all potentially without the use of first person pronouns (if you so choose to write in this way). When writing an argument for an argumentation essay, you should be sure you have a solid stance on an issue. Whether or not you have heard of the issue prior to starting the essay is a different story. Even if you have just been given a topic to write on, you should do your utmost to familiarize yourself with both sides of the argument to see which side you find preferable for your morals, ethics, etc.
Try taking a stand for or against any of the following argumentation essay topics: 1. The most boring subject matter in the world (while you may believe it is science, someone else may counter that it it math. Remember to concede to the other side and empathize with their feelings on their given take regarding the situation.
2. The best or worst show on television
3. The importance of earning a college degree
4. Cats make better pets than dogs
5. Automatic advancement to the next grade (social promotion) must be eliminated from our schools
6. Renting versus buying
7. Fine arts programs should be taken away from public school systems
8. High school should last for five years instead of four, or three years instead of four if you want to go the other way
9. Most people get married/divorced for foolish reasons
10. The greatest holiday of all
Remember that other people may not agree with your take on an issue, so conceding to their side at least a bit will allow them to take more stock in what you have to say, versus bombarding them with all the facts and figures that make you the only possible correct argument that ever existed (sense the irony there?). Argumentation essay writing can be especially easy when you solidify your stance and concede that your side is not perfect, just as you feel the other side lacks perfection. Implore yourself to do away with double standards and hypocrisy and see both sides of the coin. Arguments can be discussions, if they are phrased in ways that allow them to be so. That is where the art of argumentation essay writing comes into play.
