Therapeutic writing is multifaceted. There is color sound therapy, which can be seen as a combination of color therapy and sound therapy. Color therapy can be helpful in making it easier for you to calm down and examine your surroundings from a more relaxed perspective. Think of it as looking through rose-colored glasses. You can see the world the way you want to, from as happy a viewpoint as you would like. You can buy color therapy glasses which can be of use when doing creative writing therapy.

If you use certain color therapy glasses for certain conditions that you may have, some say that the results will be therapeutic in that some or all of your symptoms may disappear. The relaxing, calming effects of color therapy can stimulate you to feel better. So, take this to be true of writer's block as well. There are many symptoms that go along with writer's block, including uncertainty of where your writing is going, including how to create substantially interesting characters, and how to go about doing the creative writing research that will make your writing even grander.

Creative Writing Therapy Coloring may be used as a writing resource. Taking time out of your day to color in a picture can energize you and make you feel more at ease. Think back on those coloring books that you used as a child, or maybe you had your children or grandchildren use them. There are coloring books that have you color by number. Finding the appropriate numbers, choosing the appropriate colors, and staying inside the lines all the while can work your brain and allow you to see shapes in the drawings which can lead to ideas for where to go with your story. There is a technique outlined on this site called poetry by numbers which is based off of the idea of coloring by numbers. You can also gain more ideas from our write and draw page about how to write and use shapes. So you see, color therapy can pave the path to other styles and techniques of breaking writer's block. Creative writing therapy is all about finding ways in which to write that are the most helpful, relevant, important ways for you to keep in mind to further your own writing abilities.

How about sound therapy? Creative writing therapy relies on the methods that individual writers find most conducive for their writing means. Sound therapy can be useful when writing journal entries or even when trying to come up with a new idea. There is a ton of music to write by. Listening for similes and metaphors in music, or doing some journal writing therapy and listening to sounds rather than lyrical music, can stimulate your writing process in different ways. Some types of sounds or music can make you want to do some dream journaling, where you jot down your dreams and make what you will of them. Other types of sounds and music may make you want to write odes, sonnets, and other styles of poetic verse. There are various genres in which to write, and each genre can be stimulated by different types of sound therapy.

Creative writing therapy is a useful tool in eliminating unwanted writer's block from your daily grind. You want to be able to write to your heart's content and create pieces of writing that benefit not only you, but the masses as well. No matter what genre you choose to write in, what audience you choose to write for, or what creative writing therapy technique you choose to use to get you there, you are on your way to doing some wonderfully therapeutic writing that will help you find your way back to your own writing niche and out of the path of writer's block!
