You can use Facebook status ideas to help you get past your writer's block.
Some may say it sounds ridiculous to say that Facebook status ideas can spark true writing revelations. After all, Facebook statuses are mere musings. They don't necessarily hold any literal truths or gritty details that will pull readers into the fold and make them desirous of more of what you have to say. Click for Free Writer's Block Help E-Zine and Free E-Book The thing is, though, that Facebook status ideas can prompt figurative truths as well. You might read a good Facebook status such as, "This weekend is going to be killer." Whoever wrote it may just mean that they have a ton of cool, fun stuff planned that they are eager to get to, but taken in a different vein, you might write about someone who is plotting a murder over the weekend and needs to get his or her plan in order. You could also take the word "killer" to be descriptive of a new pair of shoes that a character may be longing for or you might even change the ending of the word and make it "killing" in order to describe the way those particular shoes felt once the person who so desperately wanted them tried them on and realized how painful they would be to actually walk around in. Facebook status ideas do not just have to be statements. They can be quotes that people find inspirational, advertisements for upcoming events, application updates (such as how you are doing in games such as Farmville, etc.), commentaries on society, etc. You could take any or all of these and make up creative, interesting, relevant pieces of writing. Think about the commentaries on society. Depending what someone has to say, you could write about the lack of understanding of social cues in modern society. For example, if someone writes a status update about how he or she is so annoyed with someone for not knowing how to stop talking, not knowing how to plan a party, etc., you can write a story about someone who is totally unreceptive to the persistent social cues that are thrust upon him or her. One character might try against all odds to make the socially inept individual respect cues, but that inept individual can suffuse humor into your story by failing to garner any understanding whatsoever. Using a Facebook status idea such as this to help increase your writing skills calls for you being careful, however. Even though humor is a definite possibility for your writing in a situation such as the one outlined above, it can also lead to readers getting frustrated with a character for being so completely dense that he or she cannot pick up on anything at all.
You must walk a fine line with your writing in cases like this. Let your knowledge of your readers guide you. Once you have a thorough understanding of whom your readers are (or whom you want them to be), you can more solidly appreciate what they are interested in and how you can best write it for them. Taking word meaning from context is also a cool way to think of writing ideas based on various Facebook statuses. Take the word "status" as a prime example. A status is thought of as what you might post on Facebook to express your thoughts, whether they showcase your happiness, your discontent, or some other emotional tendency. Status can also be thought of as a level of popularity, or potentially the lack thereof. If you have a higher status than someone else, you may receive better service at a restaurant, more elite seating on an airline, greater rewards with your credit card, etc. Especially now that others can "like" what you post on Facebook, people are discovering what statuses are more interesting (based on a not-so-random sample of the friends who can see what you posted). Just because your status may not receive many, if any, "like" clicks does not mean that your status as the friend of your Facebook friends has been compromised. It just means that you should take a gander at all the Facebook status ideas that are out there. Read through what your friends have to say and then at the comments that people post in response to your friends.
With the ability to see all the mutual friends you share with others, you can open yourself up to a whole slew of writing possibilities. Use these possibilities as creative writing story starters, poem starters, or journal writing prompts. See where the Facebook status ideas take you on your journey to come up with writing ideas of your own. You might just discover that there is a whole world of good Facebook statuses out there that you never even considered in your wildest dreams. You just have to allow yourself to take on the status of a writer who uses the collaborative method of sharing with others and allowing them to share with you. Facebook statuses may just help you write something profound. Take a chance on that possibility!
