Profound sayings are out there for the taking.

After all, profound sayings can be found in anything from writer quotations to quotes and sayings by other people. However, profound sayings can be made up on the spur of the moment.

Consider for a moment the amount of time you take worrying about your writer's block or some other issue that is taking precedence in your life and consuming your time. Sometimes, but not always, of course, the answer is right under your nose, waiting to be realized. If this has ever happened to you -- even just once -- you must know that answers and words are simply waiting on us to realize and discover them.

Profound sayings are similar to found poems, or other forms of found writing, in this way. It's interesting that the word 'profound' even has the word 'found' embedded in it. Found poetry is great for finding encouraging words of wisdom to guide your writing process. When you write in this way, you start off with words and phrases that you have found, and you place them in such a way that your words flow smoothly, and your piece reads well.

There are many profound words of wisdom and other inspiring sayings that we hear in movies, read in history books, or hear in our daily conversation. For example, Forrest Gump made certain phrases into profound sayings that people use to this day to describe a situation and how it can be made better, to show that life is full of uncertainty ("Life is like a box of chocolates; you never know what you're gonna get"), or to put the onus on others and show that people are capable of controlling their own actions ("Stupid is as stupid does"). Forrest's mother in the movie made sure that Forrest knew these phrases so that he would be wise, despite the shortcomings that others felt he possessed.

Profound sayings can also be found in history. It seems like an obvious fact, but even though people know that profound and encouraging words of wisdom can be found in history, they often do not take the time to let the ideas truly sink in so they can contemplate the underlying meanings and see what the person's purpose obviously was in stating their piece.

A great example of a profound saying comes from President John F. Kennedy: "And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country." We often forget to include the line that follows, which states: "My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man." This second line, without overshadowing the first, does a glorious job of stating Kennedy's intentions and hopes for what he would like to see happen in order that people can live together peacefully and freely. He wants people to take the lead and fight for progress rather than regression into times of hate and chaos which still, unfortunately, rear their ugly heads today.

The profound saying that Kennedy professed in his inaugural address lends itself well to many of the struggles in today's world. That is the mark of a truly profound saying. It captures the heart of more than one obstacle in the path to achieving success and endeavors to help make the success stay firmly planted from generation to generation.

Some encouraging words of wisdom are made even more profound because they use other literary devices to make them more appealing and satisfying to listen to and read. For example, in the "Life is like a box of chocolates" quote, a simile is used, as it compares life and a box of chocolates, which are two items that are seemingly incomparable.

Sometimes, profound sayings can be found when you let loose and just start writing what you feel. I was writing a poem a while back, and the poem prompt stated that I must incorporate a deadline in some way. One of my lines in the poem reads: "Time breeds procrastination," alluding to how when you are not faced with a set deadline, you have more time, and therefore, you might tend to procrastinate. Set deadlines make this scenario less likely. When I read this line back to myself later that night, and even still today, I find that it is profound in its meaning, because often people do not truly consider the role that time, or the lack thereof, plays in their days. Of course people constantly say, "I don't have time," or "There's just not enough time for me to do that," or something of that nature. However, I succinctly placed my thoughts on the issue into words and made it very clear that when people have time, they tend to procrastinate. They tend to throw it all by the wayside and say, "Well, I have time to do it later. It's not due until next week."

Another inspiring phrase that leaps to the forefront of my mind is: "Hope is for the hopeful." Some might say that hope is for the hopeless. Hopeless people should embrace hope and do their best to spread good cheer to themselves and others so they can feel better about their situations or issues. Others say that hope is for the hopeful, because those are the people that have wishes and dreams that they strive to achieve and that they want to come true, against all odds. The thing is, though, that even the hopeless are hopeful. They often want things even more than the hopeful people out there. They just see no chance of ever getting what they are longing for to appease what they feel is the no-good life they lead.

Sometimes the words we say and thoughts we think are more profound than we give ourselves credit for. Sometimes we can take the opposite side of the coin and think about what someone else might believe if they are hesitant to see one side of an issue. What have you said recently that strikes you as one of those profound sayings that will become some of those encouraging words of wisdom we long to hear?
