Have you had your writing fix today?

If not, here is the perfect writing fix for you. Think up as many suffixes and prefixes as you can, and jot them all down. Think up as many suffix words as you can that end in suffixes such as "-tion," "-ed," "-ary," or "-logy." Or, conversely, think up as many prefix words as possible, including those that start with "alter-," "bio-," "co-," or "demo-."

These suffixes and prefixes are just icing on the cake for this creative writing game. You will be diving into your writing with all your imagination. You will learn how to ponder what words to focus on, and how to articulate them well in various genres.

Here is a list of ten "-tion" suffix words off the top of my head:

Benediction
Contemplation
Oration
Perforation
Condemnation
Abomination
Libation
Imitation
Dedication
Narration

How about a list of "co-" prefix words as well:

Copay
Copilot
Cooperate
Coordinator
Cohabitate
Coworker
Cohost
Coauthor
Coexist
Coefficient

This creative writing game is purposely created to help you with your writing fix, and make you think up as many words as possible, until you can combine them all into one intensely wonderful vocabulary story.

Not only will you be thinking of words, but you may just learn something new from the words, such as a definition, a variation on the meaning you thought you knew, or something else entirely.

Take as many of the "-tion" suffix words as you can think of, and satisfy your writing fix for a science fiction, fantasy, or other story. You may find it necessary to know that the suffix "-tion" means "the process of," so "perforation" means "the process of perforating," "dedication" means "the process of dedicating," "narration" means "the process of narrating," etc. Once you have come up with as many "-tion" words as you can think of, make sure you fully understand their meanings, since creative writing research is so important to your writing endeavors. Research the meanings and understand what you are writing so that your meaning comes across clearly, succinctly, and impressively.

Do the same creative writing game to satisfy your creative writing fix with prefix words, such as those that begin with "co-." This prefix means "together," "mutually," "to the same extent or degree," or it can even be used to describe the complement of an angle.

Not only will this writing fix help you with your writing skills, but it will help you gain a better, more concrete understanding of how words work, and how you can best use them to spice up your writing and even your thinking.
